The Senior Capstone Career Project was implemented as a pilot project at Sequoyah High School in 2004-05 and became a Cherokee County system wide initiative in 2005-06.
With Georgia’s transition from No Child Left Behind to the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) in 2012-13, the percentage of students who complete a Career-Related Capstone Project (or a work-based learning program) was planned to be included in the CCRPI for 2016-17 as a performance indicator. The Cherokee County School District Senior Capstone Career Project was found to be in complete alignment with the requirements that were released by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) for the Career Related Capstone Project.
The senior project's goal is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their courses to research relating to a career interest area, and allow students to extend their academic experience into areas of personal career interests, to include working with new ideas, organizations, and individuals.
